Featuring: Phil Needham

100+ bu/ac wheat.

Phil Needham is awarded the Outstanding Presentation award by Darrell Bruggink at the 2009 National No-Till Conference for his presentation on No-Till wheat at the 2008 conference.

Phil Needham is the owner of Needham Ag Technologies, LLC. a family owned agri-business and agronomic consulting company based near Calhoun, KY. Needham is a native of Great Britain and holds a diploma in agriculture and an honors degree in agricultural technology from Cranfield University in England.

Needham grew up on his family farm where wheat yields between 130 and 200 bu/ac are common. He first visited the USA in 1989 and joined Miles Enterprises (based in Owensboro, KY) as an agronomist in 1990. Needham was promoted to Opti-Crop (a division within Miles Enterprises) Manager in 1996, where he managed a team of crop consultants and crop management projects from Texas to Manitoba and from Virginia to Washington state.

Needham also has professional experience working with dealers, farmers and manufacturers in Canada, Mexico, England, Holland, France, Germany, Sweden, China, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Australia, Moldova, New Zealand and South America. Needham considers himself a vehicle of technology, moving and implementing systems and agronomic technologies around the world to ultimately increase farm efficiencies, yields and profits.

Phil Needham travels the world searching for ideas and technologies which increase yields and profits. Phil is seen here standing in front of a Case combine harvesting barley in the Ukraine during the harvest of 2008.

The impact of Needham and his former Opti-Crop team’s work can be seen in his home state of Kentucky. USDA data show that average wheat yields more than doubled over a 20 year period from low 30 bushels per acre to the low 70 bushels per acre, with many farmers seeing wheat yields in excess of 100 bushels per acre on fields and farms.

More recently, since Phil started his own company, he now consults with producers and dealers across the Central and Northern Plains, where he has contributed to significant yield increases on many farms without significantly increasing input costs.
