Stainless Steel Seed Brakes

Stainless Steel Seed Brakes are made of a high quality perforated stainless steel material which offers long life, even when using corrosive fertilizer products. The Stainless Steel Seed Brakes are positioned vertically above the seed tube on John Deere and Case air-seeders. The arc shape allows positioning under frame members, while enabling them to be positioned as vertically as possible to allow good seed flow.

The flexible seed hose is cut about 2” above the steel seed tube and the Stainless Steel Seed Brake is clamped to the tube at the top and bottom with a stainless steel hose clamp (supplied).

Most of the air evacuates through the seed brake, allowing seed to fall to the ground by gravity. This system helps eliminate seeds blowing out of the seed slot, especially in tough no-till conditions, when running high fan speeds or when seeding at faster speeds.

Stainless steel seed brakes also feature an internal angled baffle which helps reduce clumping associated with air-seeders. This baffle should be positioned towards the top of the seed brake.

Due to numerous requests, we now offer a range of different seed brake sizes, including 1”, 1 ¼”, 1 ½” and 2”. Seed brake sizes refer to the hose size that they clamp to, for example a 1 ¼” seed brake is designed for a 1 ¼” OD (outer diameter) seed hose.

The 1 ¼” seed brake is also available without baffles. This is the most common size of seed brake and for growers who wish to plant large seed crops at higher rates (like peas, at a seeding rate of 180-220 lb/ac – on 7.5 or 10” rows) a seed brake without baffles is required (as illustrated right).

2” Stainless Steel Seed Brakes

For growers wishing to merge two 1 ¼” hoses into a single seed boot, we now have 1 ¼” Y brakes available. These are made from the same perforated stainless steel material as our standard seed brakes. Applications include growers who buy a 1990 CCS and add a Gandy box to deliver small seeded cover crops along with rye or other cover crops which are metered from the main seed hopper.

To maximise the performance of the Stainless Steel Seed Brakes, also consider adding Bonilla Seed Tabs.
